Do you think a fable and a short story are different types of text? (1 Viewer)

I am doing Alistair Macleods short stories and Seamus Heaney's poetry as the core texts for an essay. I have been having heaps of trouble finding related texts and have come up with two I like, "The Village" (movie) and a fable. However I know that it is not a good idea to use two of the same type of text. So heres my question, do you think a fable is the same as a short story? any views?
