A couple of things to bring to your attention:

Table A2 shows the mark distribution by course

1. Median HSC Marks
- Median HSC mark in Biology was 76
- Median mark in Mathematics was 81 -- this is ~7% higher than Biology

2. Band 5/6
- 12% B6 and 28% B5 for Biology (40% B5/6)
- 24% B6 and 30% B5 (54% B5/6) -- this is 35% higher than Biology

Table A3 shows the relationship between HSC Marks and Scaled marks

3. Average 'scaled' mark
- Average mark in Biology (37.4) resulted in a scaled mark of 26.2
- Average mark in Mathematics (39.2) resulted in a scaled mark of 31.2 (~20% higher than Biology)

4. Top 1 / 10 / 25 % scaled marks
- Top 1% of mark for Biology (47.5) scaled to 45.7
- Top 1% of mark for Mathematics (49.5) scaled to 48.3

- Top 10% of mark for Biology (45) scaled to 40
- Top 10% of mark for Mathematics (47) scaled to 43.4

- Top 25% of mark for Biology (42.5) scaled to 34.4
- Top 25% of mark for Mathematics (44.5) scaled to 38.9

5. Scaling of similar HSC marks
- HSC mark of 45.0 scaled to 40.0 and 47.5 scaled to 45.3 for Biology
- HSC mark of 44.5 scaled to 38.9 and 47 scaled to 43.4 for Mathematics

Table A5 shows the scaled mark distribution by course

- Over 90% of students in biology receive a scaled mark of less than 40
- Less than 80% of students in Mathematics receive a scaled mark of less than 40

In Summary, the stats show:

1. It is 'easier' to get a higher HSC mark in Mathematics (please do note that there is a difference in the quality of the cohort between Mathematics 2u and Biology)
2. Due to this higher average, HSC Mathematics students receive a higher average scaled mark than HSC Biology students
3. For similar HSC Marks, they scale comparatively, with Biology scaling a little higherå
