im just wondering, in a non complicated way, does school matter in regards to scaling and hsc marks etc? does anyone know the real answer?
also, if im averaging about mid 80's (raw) in all my subjects (except legal which is about 70) what do u reckon for my scaled marks? i do:

legal
business
advanced eng
extension eng 1
general maths
society and culture
modern history

anything would be good :)
thanks heaps

I think it does. If you are coming 100/120 in a selective school, you may still have a high assessment mark (like 85). But if you go to a government/public school (like me), and you're coming the same rank, then clearly your mark wouldnt be as high (say about 50), hence possibly affecting the scaling of your marks. This is what I think, so I'm not completely sure.

Hmm I'd agree. Going to a selective school really sucks sometimes when you see your rankings *shudder*. Even though you have to bear in mind that a low ranking at a selective can be equivalent to a high ranking in a non-selective school, it makes you feel terrible...

Also, at some schools *cough RUSE cough* I expect they mark considerably harder so that not everybody in the class ends up with 25/25 all the time. So when you do the HSC exams, you'll find you get "scaled up" - eg a Band 5 at Ruse would probably be a Band 6 standard in the HSC.
