I noticed that I missed the deadline to change subjects and there was one particular subject that has been causing me a lot of trouble. I was wondering is it still possible to just do 18cp this semester and catch up the other 6cp another time?

Yes, but if the subject is a prerequisite for a future unit of study you might not be allowed to start until you have completed the prerequisite.

Does that mean that you have transferred the other 6cp to next semester or next year? Didn't know that was possible--I thought it was either full or part time study only.

In the case of a flexible degree, not really, as long as it's not needed for later years. And in most cases someone will sign you off for that so you can get away with 6cp less. Or at least in science.

Full/part time is really just set by the uni as a 18cp limit. Less and you become part time. You can do 18cp and still be full time. If I ever find that I run out of subjects, I'm going to do a 18cp semester (ie never).
