This is the error message when I attempt to burn a certain DVD:

Your recording device does not support writing to DVD 9 media. This option is not available with your current recorder.
I am using Windows XP and Sonic: Record Now! burning software. The software may not be familiar to most people because the laptop was purchased in HK.

Can I do anything about it or do I have to burn it from another DVD burner? WTF is DVD 9? Thanks. :)

DVD 9 is also called a dual layered disc. Without knowing what you're burning and what disc you're burning to I'm guessing you've told Sonic to burn a DVD 9 disc when your burner doesn't support it.

So does that mean I can't burn any dual layer discs? Uhh...actually...wtf does dual layer mean? It can burn on both sides?

I get this message in the first stage of the burning process. When I'm actually only inserting the original DVD into burner. That is, when it's suppose to only READ the original copy.

Any remedies?
Thanks again.

It's a DVD from HK. Commemorates the death of a person who created really good lyrics fro songs.

In other words, it's of a concert.

Dual Layer are the new style of DVDs which allow for burning as it states on "dual" layers.

Only newer ones can burn it, what DVD drive do you have?

There is a way of dividing it and making it into two separate parts, but that might take a while and be more trouble than its worth, you'd be better off ripping it into a compressed format
I never realised you can do that..

Ye santaslayer.. I've got an IBM lappy with Record Now! It's sorta simple to change the burning format.. But my drive is only a cd burner, there's a selection list that lists different cd-types to be formatted. I guess it'd be the same deal with DVDs

Yeah essentially it involves making one iso, using relevant software to create two new smaller sized isos but that would involve finding out which files go where and discarding/ripping things which werent needed, in the end not worth it :)

If someone has the effort to tell me how to go about doing it, in a non nerdy fashion that is.....then that'll be much appreciated.
