DVI vs VGA (1 Viewer)

I'm wondering if I should spend ~$30 on a DVI connector for my 17' LCD...

After reading some reviews they seem to say that text is much clearer, but you wont notice the difference in movies/games.

I mostly use the monitor for text so it seems a worth while purchase.

But, have any of you guys compared it directly?

I compared it directly...I couldn't tell that much of a difference, maybe the colours are slightly more contrasted.

But then, my monitor says its connected via VGA even though its connected through the adapter DVI..

Edit: And yeah won't be able to tell difference in games.

hmm.. there was a comparison on firingsquad.com and it should be a much sharper image.

what monitor do you have?

i got a dvi vid card but my monitor is analogue
so it makes no difference 2 me
however if u want to u could
it might be a worthwhile investment and plus its only $30

$30 isn't that much, and even if you don't see the differences, it may come in handy later on. (like sell it!)

when it comes to IT stuff at that price, I never think, just buy.

I do notice slightly sharper images/better contrast with my DVI cable.

I have GF4 Ti4600 and Viewsonic VP171s.

lol..if its that cheap mate.. buy it!!! even if it dosnt prove to be as great as you thought it would be.. save it for a rainy day when u have a better monitor.. or video card and it will come in handy!!

I have my TFT screen through VGA yet I don't have to auto-adjust it everytime the res changes...
Yes I think DVI would make a difference for very large monitors.. my 17cm is not large enough for the difference to be visible.. (to my eyes anyways.. oh no im going blind)
