Has anyone got the handout that was on blackboard but is now down? The one on Mean and Variance as Expectations? If so could you post?

If not what's the formula for:

- The variance of a discrete random variable
- Linear combination

I've got the first page of the handout; just not the subsequent ones.

I want to know why they took it off in the first place- it was up there because Tig's lecture notes on mean/variance of random variables weren't good I'm guessing. He explained it strictly as 'discrete'... when in the textbook it acknowledges that the variables can be continuous as well.

Where can you buy Casio fx-82MS calculators?
... I used my casio fx-82TL for the ecmt1010 quiz. I don't think it matters if you're using an older version etc. of casio fx-82MS until the actual semester exam.

Thanks for posting that.
I found the notes at a friend's house under a pile of rubbish.

The ECMT test was easy enough and the question on variance of discrete random variables was a sinch.

Well I want to get specifically this one.
I do not have an older version right now, so I might as well just get the one that we're gonna use for the final exam.
Well in that case... I've seen them at officeworks before. Most people have the casio fx-82MS model, it's probably available at any computer/tech store.

Yeah, most of the marks were 12- 13. I don't think anybody got 15?

re: calculators.

it's the casio fx- 85MS that we will be provided with in the semester exam. And so far Dick Smith, Officeworks, and Tandy do not stock it- at all. :( .

what do you mean by "provided with". Don't we take our own calculators into the exam?

you probably can't find it because that model calculator came out 2 years ago.
