For the second year, just how broad are the elective subjects?

I know B. Arts you can basically elect anything. But would B. Arts in Communication be restricted only to communication related subjects?

Well UTS only really offers communications type subjects in the arts faculty. However, you can study anything for your elective (as long as you have completed any prereqs for it).... from any faculty, even from different universities. You just need to get faculty approval to do that and it can be difficult to set it up. The subject just has to be worth the right amount of credit points.

There are some subjects in the humanities faculty at UTS that aren't really communication-ish... e.g. Genocide Studies.

Get the faculty handbook to look at what subjects the faculty offers. If they don't take your fancy, then find out all the info about how to do a cross faculty or cross institution elective.

But basically for your electives you can pick whatever you want, it's up to you to try and arrange it with the faculty.
