Hi

I thought that if i did the electric engineering/science degree, the electric engineering component will be exactly the same as doing the single degree version. I'm looking at the program structure and it's different. For example, for the double degree theres no Higher Physics whilst for the single one there is. Am i missing something here?

this is the program for the double degree and this is the program structure for single degree (EE).

thanks a lot.

There's nothing stopping you from enrolling in the 'higher' stream of a particular subject if you want to. The writer probably assumed that the heavy load which comes with a double degree shouldn't be coupled with too many higher courses. But it's not really a heavy load, because you're there for a couple of extra years.

There are a few anomalies like that in the virtual handbook.

Double degrees sometimes omit a few of the less important subjects which are required by their single counterparts - but that's usually the only difference.

Laz is right. Having done higher physics means having done normal physics - you only do one or the other (unless of course you fail higher physics the first time around, you probably want to go to normal physics the next time you do it).

Same with maths/higher maths and comp/higher comp.

With electrical engineering, you have to do Higher Physics (PHYS1131 & 1231) in the first year whether you're in a combined degree or not, you can't choose to do normal physics (PHYS1121 & 1221). The reason for this is that a course you'll do later (PHYS2939 - Electromagnetism) requires Higher physics as a prerequisite.

It's just a typo on the course program schedule, they really meant Higher Physics not Physics.

Also the only thing that is in the single electrical engineering degree but not in the combined degree, is the general education courses in the second year.
