Hey, im thinking of getting a laptop before i go away to uni next year and was wondering if anyine could help me out.
Im hoping to be studying Electrical engineering.
Will i need anything special or just a basic computer????

Well it would be good to have a computer/ laptop, but its not really essential in lectures as in elec engineering you do little programming and more hardware stuff. But ye a computer would be good in accessing the web, doing assignments, checking your uni account etc.

Oh ye it can be a basic computer, no one at uni requires a super computer.

you don't need it. in lectures pen and paper is the best and there aren't many assignments in first year. have you ever tried to draw a circuit diagram on a computer?

there are also plenty of computer labs around the uni, (although at unsw you will need to kick all the nerds off playing unreal tournament or whatever it is they play all day)

but if you want a laptop, just get one and use uni as an excuse :)

Anything that allows you type reports comfortably.

Basic laptops today you get pretty much can do what is required, more money goes to buying softwares.
