Do employer's care about which uni you got your degree from? Is the same degree from USYD better than one from UWS for example.

I think this very much depends on the employer, particularly his/her own background, in a similar way as whether you went to a private/public high school. In many cases (other than positions solely based on academic marks), recruitment is very subjective.

Good marks and a degree from a prestigous uni will probably help in getting your foot through the door i.e. getting an interview or second glance, but the rest would be up to you.

For a example, take a look at the Pricewaterhouse Coopers graduate selection processes:
PWC Selection Process

The processes are so bloody stringent and varied that simply graduating from the best unis with a HD average grade simply won't help you.

Have you not watched The Apprentice? Going a a well recognised uni can be a major selling point in job interviews. That said, it does depend on your type of employment. Often in the business/law fields employers will tend to pay more attention to uni's than education for example. Practical training in a field is also of considerable importance, some uni's (such as UTS for Law) often this as part of the degree.

yes it does make a slightly better impression if u came from a more reputable uni, reputation is very important...

i asked this in my accoutning interview and the interviewer said the university is important once u just finish ur undergrad .... like he sed he prefers unsw to usyd ppl for accountin coz of the reputation blah blah blah ... but after u have lots of experience the university wont matter as much

It's the reputation of the units offered by the university more so than the university itself that matters (or so you would think).

Centrelink doesn't care which uni you get your arts degree from. So the uni you go to isn't everything.

depends on the course, different uni's have different reputations for different courses. Your uni could work for you or against you depending on the source of the chip on your employers shoulder.

that would depend on your majors taken within your arts degree.

arts degrees tend to be really broad and lack direction.

Arts? Why dont you try comparing it with Liberal STudies? so damn broad and restrictive! Arts is a must if you want to become a teacher, or if you don't quite know what you want to do. It's extremely flexible as you can take a large variety of units from basicly whatever the university can offer you (besides law), but you really should major in something that is valuable in terms of employment opportunities... such as a language.

wouldn't a person who graduated with a B Arts + Hons be less likely to be dissed than a Law student who failed (or just passed) their first yr?
