Hey guys, i got an english assessment coming up next week on unseen texts. I’m terrible at these and I desperately need advice on how to approach this task.

By the way does anyone hav sample responses to the unseen questions from BOS past papers?

Unseen texts can be a book, poster, text (book, film) review, cover, prose fiction, poem and so on and in the HSC they relate to the common area of study i.e. journeys.

The most basic way of approaching these texts is to remember lanaguage techniques (such as metaphor, alliteration, assonance, simile, personification, enjambment ...) for 'worded' texts and visual techniques (such as close up, positioning of characters, vector lines ...) for visual texts such as posters.
Then you must analyse how these techniques effectively shape the purpose of the text in relation to the area of study i.e. journeys.
