Hey just wondering how do you actually apply the error checking methods if they provide you with information and ask you to calculate?

Be a bit more specific, because it's a bit hard to tell what you're asking.

ive seen a couple of multi choice questions where they ask you about parity checking eg. question 20 2002 paper
the following ascii and parity were transmitted:
0011010 0
which of the following would cause the receiver to ask for it to be resent
a) 1011010 1
b) 0011011 1
c) 0011011 0
d) 0011010 0
answer is c because the others inc. eg are set at odd parity
in relation to checksum and crc, although it is possible they could ask you a question like that, remember we can't take calculators in so it would be a little hard. i'm imagining that if they were to ask a question on error checking methods it would more likely be either comparing the three or defining one...
but if you are asked to make a judgment about which is the best, the answer is always crc
