School exam papers stolen

SCHOOLS have been warned not to use certain history and technology studies examination papers for HSC assessment after a theft at a high school in Parramatta.
Several examination papers were stolen during the break-in at Arthur Phillip High School.
A Department of Education spokeswoman said an examination taken during the HSC trial period could account for 20 to 50 per cent of a student's final mark if it was assigned as an assessment item.
However, she said, the department did not believe that the stolen papers were "being used very widely for trial HSC assessments".
She confirmed they were not the Catholic trial exams also used in some state schools.
Arthur Phillip High School was using the exam papers as a teacher reference, she added.
