I was wondering (you can delete this thread mods if you feel you have to) who has the excel books (or who has used them).

Today l bought Preliminary Biology (I had HSC Biology before) and Revise HSC Biology core in a month.

I was wondering what you thought of them or think of them and how effective they are?

Thanks.

Bio excel HSC, isn't that good, it just gives u a brief overview, but in ur hsc u will need to go in depth. Its good if u use it along with your other textbooks from school.

i didn't bother buying either of the excel books of bio
i dont find them very good..
probably the best study guide for buio is the maquarie one...
i didn't find any other ones nearly aS good and maq isn't all that great either
textbooks are the way to go as far as bio is concerned...
rather different that chem and physics were the study guides are really good..weird huh?!?
either way..i say u made a bad investment..then again... it might be different for you..u might find them helpful
just IMO. :)

I bought them just for an overview, like what Cape said. I didn't buy them to use as a textbook, just a guide. I can study from it but to go in depth l know l will have to use my textbook. I have had a look through it and it gives a simple overview of cells - which l can actually understand!!

Thank you

lolz, my theory: the more books the better... an excel is betta dan nothing, and a bio in context + excel is betta dan a bio in context alone... cuz u get more referece?? n dat's good, cuz u got to understand things better...

whether you get around to using them is another thing

but biology is the subject i have the most boooks in. i absolutely love it the subject thats why. bu i have surfing and mac revision. i find that excel isnt good. i mean, if i'm stuck on a dot point, then i'll look it up in excel, but it wont tell me any better things. so yeah.. excel bio is pretty crap IMO

If u want a good summarised tbook, then go for Heinemann (it's got nice pictures, simple and concise info, and it's sooo shiny :p).
If u want a really nice and detailed info tbook, then go for Jacaranda.
I didnt use Excel in Yr 12, but bought it in Yr 11, but i cant tell u how it was...because i didnt use it :p. That goes for most of my tbooks, anyways :D

man, the hi book is alright
yeah it does have alot of excess info that you dont need, but yeah get the revised 2004 edition,; they should of edited the book to make it better suit the new syllabus

its a good book. all the info that you do need, is there. you just have to read it carefully to find what you need.

u should use alot of books and resources, then combining everything to make ur own notes.
