I got a wisom tooth extracted 2 days ago and have been in excruciating pain since the numbess wore off. Im worried because I usually have a high pain threshold but this pain is unbearable, has had me in tears, and the painkillers I have are not working. They worked the first time but now they do nothing, I've taken them twice since and the pain just seems to stay the same or even get worse. It's a constant throbbing and aching. I notice the pain occasionally sparks to my ear, and I have a weird taste in my mouth. There were no complications with the extraction, they just pulled the tooth and then stitched it, no removal of bone or anything, which is why I cant figure out why I'd be in so much pain. It's my first wisdom tooth removal so I dont know what to expect. Is this normal, or could I have a dry socket?

You have dry socket.

Pain killers won't work.

Try clove oil.

Omg...lol at this. Please read this carefully, if you ever are in any sort of pain please do not google what you are feeling and expect an answer. I know you did this because I did the same, and convinced myself this time last year (when i had all my wisdom teeth removed as well as 5 other teeth, yup 9 teeth) that i was suffering from dry socket and possibly a root canal ( i can't even remember the name). I had pain for one week (extreme) and yahoo answers; my trusty friend reassured me that i had some sort of infection. Completely false, went to the doctors and everything was fine. Moral of this paragraph, take your meds and antibiotics (you should be on them when you have wisdom teeth removed) and stay away from food! Good luck, i know the excruciating pain.

If your in excruciating pain you need to get more powerful painkillers from your doctor! Especially if your in tears! No one should be in that pain...
