Bloody hell,

this service is becoming less and less reliable every day. I mean the speed isnt as fast as it used to be. I have only downloaded 1 gig sofar, no where close to being capped.
And my Bit Torrents used to run at 220 kbps and now its like 1kbps. Its so annoying. I think maybe stupid bigpond fags have decided to block off download sites because they are on some conspiracy. I hate it!

Do you people think TPG or optus is a better broadband solution?

BitTorrent speeds are not guaranteed. They depend on the number of seeders avaliable. If there is only one seeder on 56k, it doesn't matter if you're on a T1 line, you will still only get 5-6kb/s at best.

This is why you need to find a PRIVATE torrent network.

yeah i know what you mean!

when i was with elitetorrents a few weeks back before the culling, i could download a 700mb file in under 2 hours.. it was very fast !

except i guess, i had a ratio of 0.1 or maybe 0.2 hahahaha, i downloaded about 30-40gb and uploaded 1gb :p

It's true.. as I've said previously (on some other thread)
A couple of years back I can get speeds of 1.1MBps constant from ausgames or something like that.. now the highest speed is a mere 407KBps. It's still pretty fast.. and it made me think of the days with 28.8Ks where downloading a file of 1MB in size was thought as a marathon of waiting.

Your download rate is not static.

Let's say for example you're downloading from a remote server on some small island in the ocean on the other side of the world. Chances are, you're not going to get 500kb/s.

On the other hand, let's say you're downloading from a Bigpond Gamearena, in Sydney. Chances there, are that you'll get a constant 500kb/s.

A bad download speed on cable does not make your provider bad. If we take this a step further into P2P programs - uploading from someone on Dialup who can only upload at 2kb/s, and then complaining about your bad download speed, is ridiculous.

I'm not saying Bigpond are great. I've had good and bad experiences while being with them, but I am taking an objective viewpoint.

The best course of action when getting a bad download speed is to assess where it's coming from. Is it local? Is it hosted on a server with a high upstream? Is the download location (Eg a website) in heavy use? Is it peak download hour, with a maximum number of people on your ISP at that time?

Just a few things to consider before you label your connection as bad.
