I have trouble factorising longer equations such as this:

x^2 - 4y^2 - x + 2y

Wow I worked it out myself lol, (x - 2y)(x + 2y - 1), maybe this question was easy but does anyone have any tips/advice when factorising this equations?

I have trouble factorising longer equations such as this:

x^2 - 4y^2 - x + 2y
= (x2 - [2y]2) - (x - 2y)

= (x + 2y)(x - 2y) - 1(x - 2y)

= (x + 2y - 1)(x - 2y)

You are factorising an algebraic expression, not an equation!
