I think i am totally screwed, my rank is 66/68 and only 2 terms left and i don't know what to do.. Should i drop to Standard or try and do better in Adv, but if i got to STD the 1st two terms would be average compared to my Adv, so in standard i'll still be in the bottom? In two terms if i do well can i rise up my ranking? Or should i just stay in ADV..

So embarrassing and depressing..

Also the scaling is similar anyway isn't it? Not that it matters too much considering my ranking.. I think i got like 40% in both tests.. its a bad ranked school too..

I think i get bad because of failure to express own critical view, so i might be better at STD doing the basic analysis.. But will it be bad for UNI? Because they say pre-req is ADV minimum, damn i'm so screwed..

And then you'll fail again. The only technical difference between Advanced and Standard is the level of difficulty of the texts. You still need to provide and express the same level of critical analysis and understanding of the texts, so thinking that dropping down and it being easier is a completely deluded mindset.

Anyway, sure you're in a bad position, no point denying that. Sure you can improve in rankings, at least in the 40's should be achievable given a good performance in your exams. If you know what you're doing wrong, why aren't you rectifying the issue? Have you asked your teacher for help? Asked for past essays for guidance?

Ask your teacher for some essay questions to get you started.

Each Module has a different set of criteria and purpose. For Module B, ie. Hamlet, it's a critical study of Hamlet, so you need a critical view. You are expressing your view of Hamlet, obviously with textual evidence and analysis. In terms of what to answer, just ask your teacher for questions you can do, or even better, look at the past HSC papers and answer those questions.

I've never seen English Advanced as a prerequisite for anything.
