I'm posting this in here, because in non school people will just spam this thread.... and it kinda comes under "real estate".
I have whinged on here before about my problem flatmate (a loud American pot smoking frat boy whose friends never seem to leave our place)... they are NEVER quiet... right now I was trying to do some reading for uni and they are being so loud I can't hear myself think. They keep us up late (like, 4am in the morning late), wake us up early sometimes as well. They never go to class, they smoke hash on the balcony and they haven't washed any dishes since arriving in the country. Plus they are leeching off my wireless internet connection without paying, and I think they are downloading porn. After several attempts by me and my other flatmates to talk this through (which is always met by him yelling at us.... the other night he yelled at me with such ferocity after I tried to talk to him about how disgusting the kitchen is I was nearly shaking). Basically they make the kitchen filthy (using all of our kitchenware etc) eat our food without asking, throw things out that are ours without asking and totally occupy the lounge room so that we can't use that space (our apartment is VERY VERY small... our whole 4 bed apartment is minature so there is no escaping from them). Any attempt by us to discuss the situation have been to no avail.... I have gone out and yelled at them in the middle of the night but they have just continued on being noisy. It was so bad one night that I went to work after 3 hours sleep and then ended up bursting in to tears while I was walking home from work. They are physically intimidating, especially since there are basically four of them living in here, making any requests by us easy to laugh off and ignore.
I have spoken to the university housing service but they largely have done nothing... it's getting down to the business end of semester, I have lots of assignments due... I can't even ring people to interview them for journalism stories because they are swearing loudly in the background, it sounds like I am calling from a pub! My mother is horrified by their language when I call her... she can hear them loudly and clearly from Albury Wodonga.
I'm just at the end of my tether, I just don't know what to do.... I am so stressed, I have so much uni work to do... I hate being in my own apartment a lot of the time, like I am sitting here now trying to do research, I can't even hear myself think.... I'm just so stressed, the noise never stops.
Any suggestions? I've tried talking to him nicely, being a bitch..... going to the housing service. I just don't know what else I can do.... I'm thinking maybe should I call the police one night? Or will that just make the situation worse? Can you make a noise complaint about someone who lives in the same apartment as you?
