Easy, have fun. Appreciate the year from day one, it will be gone so quickly - that's what I was told, but i didn't really think it would go all that quickly, but it did.

Study earlier rather than later. Start studying from the very begining, you don't need to do heaps but make sure you're always doing some - that will make it so much easier at this time next year. It's much better than doing fuck all for thee whole year and then finding it so hard to start studying because your so used to doing nothing.

That said don't go overboard - don't study on Friday nights. Always put going out with mates ahead of study, unless it's right before an assesment or exam. Because it's your friends that you'll really remember, not that bullshit you're meant to be studying.

It's just that the closer you get to the end of school is the time when you're going to be wanting to spend more time with your friends, though this is the time when you should really be doing more work. If you've been working consistantly the whole year doing nothing for a few weeks at the end won't matter so much.

And number one out of everything - when you're meant to be studying come onto BOS and write huge posts to try and convince yourself that you're not just wasting time, but actually helping someone else.

+I don't know if all those things can actually work, because I didn't do all that. Sounds good but.

If I had one hint to give, it would be to work from the start and take your assessments seriously. Don't think "I'll make up for it later pfft plenty of time cuz" because getting a good start can be SUCH a benefit... If you screw up on an assessment later on you'll still have a good rank if you killed the early assessments, but also don't burn yourself out by studying too much in the early stages.

Also, more importantly, enjoy your year. There will be a lot of pressure put on you (by teachers and parents, especially if your parents are like mine) but you still need to enjoy your last year, spend time with your friends.

Start regular study EARLY ON in year 12. I only really started proper study around trials, and I'm regretting it already. if you want to do well, develop a regular routine and try your best to stick to it.

study early. i only just got into a good routine of work after being all over the place all year and im kicking myself. if you get into the habit from week one you wont be so lost later. trust me, you have to start studying for exams a good time before unless you're one of those cramming people... i didnt have any time to study effectively for trials until the week before... and let me tell u 7 days to go over a whole years work... not fun. so yeah. but have fun too, dont lock yourself in the house the whole year and not socialise, because you want to establish and consolidate your friendships so you dont lose touch after school.

You know the ironic thing about these type of threads they pop up each and every year with the parting HSC year giving the next year advice. Again next year I would be expecting to see the same advice being given. Just food for thought, maybe the class of 07 can be the first to listen to these tips and take them onboard from day one.

Basically what everyone has said is quite true, study from the begin. Make notes early do a little bit each day and come exam periods you won't be as stressed as your notes will be done. Like everyone else has had its good to have a balance as that is usually how the top students achieve, having a balance and having a plan that works.

Don't procrastinate. It will do wonders. If you get a booklet to read, read it and make notes on it the day you get it. Don't delay. If you do maths, keep up to date with your maths homework or you'll be screwed. Stop thinking "oh I'll do it tomorrow".

To avoid procrastination, isolate yourself from anything remotely distracting.

Keep your notes in order/organised. You'll love yourself for it later on, because if your notes are all over the place, it's going to be tough revising.

Find yourself a hobby/interest if you don't already have one. It will keep you sane during your study breaks, and generally throughout the HSC.

Don't ever skip a chance to spend time with your friends (unless the English exam is the next day). Go out during the holidays.

Okay, all that being said, unless you're incredibly self-disciplined, you'll probably end up procrastinating and cramming anyway. I know I did, even after reading such similar advice.

So good luck. Enjoy Yr 12. It's when your grade is most bonded and the teachers are nicest. Just do your best. Don't push yourself over the edge. There are always backdoor options if you screw up

I said this before... and someone agreed with me.

DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THE FOLLOWING WEBSITES:

- Myspace.com
- deviantART.com
- Flickr.com
- DON'T GO ON MSN DURING THE WEEK.
- smh.com.au (well if you're like me and a media whore)
- youtube.com
- hi5.com

Don't get unlimited internet either. Especially not broadband
THESE THINGS ABOVE ARE STRICTLY FOR POST HSC PROCRASTINATION

boredofstudies.org is OKAY.

Practical stuff I suppose, to an extent.. take with a pinch of salt. Love from Llama <3

If you do get hobbies - make it music or sport, so you're constantly using the better parts of your brain.

Do make study notes and keep adding to them.. a stitch in time saves nine... One dot point of summary in time saves doing it when you cannot be fucked :)

If you don't know anything or can't comprehend something.. ASK FOR HELP.
Someone will always be willing to help you if you ask nicely.

With Major works.
Use Term 4 to start major planning. Do not waste that term.

Go to bed at a decent time and stick to that.
When you get home from schoool, do not automatically start studying, go for a walk, talk to your parents/siblings. Chill for about half an hour then go back to doing that.

Learn to drive - well for me it's been a great stress reliever and makes me feel like i'm working towards something... and it's something that doesn't require me to write an essay.

Actually have a life - drink, dance, go out partying, clubbing, don't do drugs (cause that's just fucking stupid). Don't start smoking cause that's another dumb habit to get into. The beach is a great place to reflect and enjoy yourself. See live music and things. Plan your time. TAKE LOTS OF PHOTOS BECAUSE ITS YOUR LAST YEAR..

Dont' drink and drive or i'll kill you.

Use a diary/calender/whatever. Get a pin board... In fact get two.
One for stuff you like, nice motivational stuff, pictures etc, and the other can be for assessments and evil things. Use the 'assessment calender' provided free from our friends at the Dept of Education to your advantage.

Remember birthdays, make it special for your friends, i'm sure they'll do the same and it something nice and positive to have during your HSC year.

Make time for yourself...Pamper yourself. Eat.

If ther's a social event - GO. Make friends, Networking is EXTREMELY important... and fun.

Don't go into BigBlogger competitions... though the people and friends you make are valuable and beautiful.

Also invest in a memory stick USB whatever they are... you'll want to be able to carry around work.

Get some nice chunky book for free reading if you're inclined.
Put all your compulsary books into a pile. So you'll know where the find the evil things.

Build up a lovely sexy music collection - soothing stuff particularly... and some angry fuck-off metal :D

Free periods. Do the half and half method. Some for socialising, others for study.

If you have a job, continue with it, cause you'll appreciate the extra money.. just make sure you don't work a 16 hr week ... cut your hours down. Try Sundays! :p

Do some charity work / community service because its doing something nice for someone else, you get that "high" and its something to add to your resume.... you also make terrific friends

Put together that resume you were forced to do in Year 10 together when you have time.

For organisation, get lots of lever arch files (cause they're thick) and use dividers!! Hole punching is nice.. and makes it look all slick and pro.. and you'll want to look at it.

Support mechanisms... friends/parents/this website.

Correspondence courses.
Actually ring your supervisors. Something I was lazy at and did about 4 times in my whole schooling year. Oopsies.

Keep strong relationships with friends you wish to keep post HSC.

Be friend your teachers, they're people too.
Same goes with parents. Now is the time to make all those bonds with them if you don't already have it.

Relationships --- try avoiding going into them if you can. Trust me on this one. But if you're already in one or you know there's a really good bond, well keep it.

Hug people.

Go shopping - RETAIL THERAPY IS SUPERB

Um I can't think of anything else

BE GOOD AND HAVE FUN CLASS OF 2007

Actually, drinking is stupid.

Do yourselfa favour and don't argue with me on this one. Socially, it is the most destructive drug (they don't teach you that in PE, but they fucking should).

Smoking is a much better option (tobacco only), I picked it up around year 10, after the SC where I got all band 4's, and now, I can get 5's and 6's in my subjects.

Once again, don't argue with me on this, and if you do answer these for me:
  • When was the last time a cigarette caused a car accident?
  • You can divorce your husband/wife cause they are an alcoholic, but not because they smoke? Also, has smoking a bit of tobacco caused domestic violence?
  • When was the last time cigarettes made a girl sexually vulnerable?
All in all, drinking is stupid. Fuck the smoke warnings, I would die happy knowing that I killed myself instead of killing/hurting someone innocent.

Well that's just socially, study wise, drinking is a hinderance:
  • Every time someone gets drunk, brain cells die
  • Hangover - lost study time
While smoking helps you focus, sharpens your senses (yes, nicotine does that). It is also a great social tool and if you come first in PE (as I did, also in 3 other subjects), it is great to talk about the irony.

Other than that, listen to what she wrote, but I know you won't follow that from day 1.

Actually, I was in a car accident when I was 3 because the guy behind us rammed us because he was busy lighting a cigarette. Also, smoking causes lung cancer. It affects others through passive smoking, which has been PROVEN to cause cancer (and when pregnant women smoke, but that's not relevant here).

Alcoholism is a severe addiction. Similarly, if I was in a relationship with someone so addicted to cigarettes as a way of dealing with other shit, I'd consider leaving them. It's not healthy, affects my health, is expensive, and smells bad. Also, alcohol does NOT cause domestic violence. It's not as if someone who would never abuse someone drinks and then that triggers some bizarre reaction in their brain to make them abusive. Basically, alcohol isn't an excuse. They would have done it anyway.

As for advice, everyone has pretty much covered it. Do work steadily throughout the year, lean on friends, have fun. I wrote a similar post a couple months ago, so I'll dig it up and post it here.

Pace yourself- the first 2 terms are full of assessment tasks. Start early and keep your head up about weeks that will be full of due dates. In the more quiet weeks, use them for study/work etc. because you'll need them!

Have things to look forward to, both in the near and distant future- organise to do things on the weekend, make plans for schoolies and uni etc. so you realise that the HSC isn't the be all, end all, and there's a reason for the work- having more choices for uni etc.

If things start to get tough, SPEAK UP! don't suffer quietly! Talk to your friends, parents, and there are always individuals at your school that will help you- teachers, year coordinators, careers advisors, counsellors. Thie year is about YOU, and you need to do everything you can to help yourself.

Keep healthy- people always say this and often people don't understand why it's included in year 12 tips, other than because it's common sense. It's because the healthier you are, the better you are able to study and balance your life, and the happier you will be. Sleep 7-8 hours a night, get exercise (really helps burn off stress), get out in the sun- seriously, it's great to study but you really need to take breaks so that you don't feel like an anaemic hermit.

Don't compare yourself to other students- it makes people unecessarily competitive, and often makes you just doubt yourself. Everyone works differently, so just make sure you're doing what you have to do to do well.

Communicate with your teachers well and often- check in with your teachers every 2 weeks or so, show them your summaries. If you show them you care about your work, they will be more willing to help you do your best.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Appreciate every aspect of school, and your social life.

Make the most of the time you have left, whether it be cherishing the "special" moments with you and friends, or whether it be using your time wisely and study when you have to.

Oh, and a personal piece of advice, when your english teacher asks you to write practise essays in class, don't sit there and play with your split ends or dig holes in the wall, but actually do them. I didn't do one single essay in class this year, but with approximately 12 days 21 hours and 49 minutes until I do English paper one, I am really regretting it.

Don't forget to have fun though.
