I noticed that in SAM, my biggest contributor to my UAI was in fact my Extension 1 maths.

Who else had this same occurrence? I wouldn't think it'd be very common to have 3 Unit beating 4 Unit.

Oh, well that's wierd. No one's had their 4 unit better than 3 unit yet.

That's really wierd. I thought 4 unit had the ultimate scaling. Not 3.

well errm. it's not that weird for me because my hsc mark for 3u was a lot better anyway. 4u did scale up heaps despite the dodgy mark.
ahah keypad, i don't know if you can expect your 4u mark to go up any further :p

You would think that. Both contributed 100, but the higher contributor was 3 unit.

Anyway, on the scaling thing. It can't be true for everyone. If everyone's 3 unit scaled better than their 4 unit, wouldn't that mean that 3 unti has better scaling that 4 unit. (Do we need to consider the 2 unit people?)

Both my 3U and 4U contributed equally (96.0).
I got 96 in 3U and 93 in 4U, if that helps to explain anything???

eh, keypad, if they both contributed 100 then how is 3u contributing more than 4u?

but you topped it?

i have heard from a teacher that 4u scaling isn't all it's cracked up to be, for the amount of work you do

There are two possibilities:

1) The scaled marks for each course are actually slightly different, but appear to be the same (due to rounding).

2) The scaled marks are exactly the same, and the first course in the list is being chosen.

I'm able to check #1 if you tell me your marks. You're able to check #2 by editing your profile.

That was a one-off occurrence in 2001, when a small anomaly within the scaling procedures appeared.

It is no longer the case.

I got 99 for 4 unit, and 100 for 3 unit. Same as turtle.

But 3 unit is before 4 unit, so they may have just both scaled to 100, and then been selected in order.

You were first in Extension 2, so it's easy enough to see that your scaled mark for that was 100.

The fact that you weren't first in Extension 1 means that your aligned HSC mark was actually something slightly less than 100 (i.e. 99.5 <= mark < 100). Hence your scaled mark would also be something slightly less than 100. SAM reports 100 because you are entering an aligned HSC mark of 100 (which is too imprecise).
