'every text has its use by date'
my interpretation of this question is whether the play is now just suitable for the responders of today. such as being too out of context or conflicts with too many of our values.
however, that can be a good thing, because it can be the comparison of eras. value then comes int ot eh equation. it will show the past that can never come back. this is the level of appreaciation and understanding that one holds for a society. during its time it was outlawed in theatres and as a transcript in its physical forms for obvious reasons. that is; the judgement that it holds unto the monarchy.

language and FORM specially?
the language would be obviously the shakespearean language that is used. however, since this was written in the time of the elizabethian and jacobean period, this would have been a jacobean tragedy. it holds values that are held specifically within a family.
King Lear and its form. this obviously as you have stated, is a film, but it is also a play. the form that it takes. though it has been mainly performed in films and theatres, the productions are different. therefore this means that the way it is performed would be different, ie. portrayal of characters, the costumes of the characters, the settings of the plays.
i hope this has helped. oh and by the way, i havent studied King Lear in class yet
however, this is what i have interpreted King Lear as being at the moment.
