Hey guys, I cameup with this simple formula to calculate OC/SS profile mark. I think it is fair. I tested on one kid I know and got the result only 0.25 marks off the real profile mark. I wonder if you guys could try on your own SS marks (in the past) to see whether it works.

(Sum of all test marks) x 200/165 + 1/2(sum of school marks)

For example:

GA 45
MATHS 35
ENGLISH 35
WRITING 16
School English 85
School maths 95

You would get this

(45+35+35+16) x 200/165 + 1/2(85+95) = 248.78

My simple theory is that, if you only get max 165 for the tests, it is fair to scale it to the max possible 200 then add 1/2 of the total marks given by the school. In this way the school give max 100, the test is max 200 to give max 300 profile mark. It is simple and fair. Surely school moderation may change the school marks a bit but it would not be very much.

For OC mark, the same formula will be like this

(Sum of all test marks) x 200/70 + 1/2 (sum of school marks)

We all know how people feel that the procedure is very mysterious. But I could not help wondering it is actually very simple. When I tried this way of thinking and found that I got only 0.25 mark off the real mark for a kid in 2008.

Try it and let me know how close to the real profile marks you guys got.
