Hi, im planning to take the GED later on.
Does anyone have any experience with this test?

No, this isn't an American forum. The GED is basically what dropouts do, isn't it?

it's pretty much the equivalent of dropping out of school then doing year 12 at tafe, yeah.

Exactly. But it's just the one program (i.e. no courses other than year 12 work) that is the equivalent of getting your (American) high school diploma.
