ok, i know there have been a lot of threads on this, but i cant really find what it is im after.

basically..short version...did my rcg yesterday, bar course today (OMG! SOOO fun!!) and my rsa tomorrow.

anyways, im going to go around a few of my pubs (quiet, local country-ish pubs) and have a chat to them about getting some work. apart from the bar course, i have no experience in this field (although my parents have their own business, so ive been cash handling, dealing with customers, etc, quite literally my whole life)

so to cut a long story (or, question) short...what should i say to them?

Show them you can pull a beer with good head :) Chances are you won't be doing much drink mixing.
Show them you are friendly, they will want to see how you socialise with people especially obnoxious drunks.

Then if they say they don't have time or a position right now ask them if you can do a shift just for experience or to show them you have what it takes, they might see you have potential or are keen.

Also if they mention they don't need anyone to work behind bar ask if you can do some work picking up glasses or whatever, that way they might let you behind if things pick up or someone calls in sick at the last moment :)

Also make sure you find out the reputation behind the place you are applying to first, sure you might get a job first up but do you really want it if it's the worst pub in town?
