Hey
Does anyone have any advice on how to prepare the essay topics for family and global environment that don't involve effectiveness?
effectiveness is like the only kind of essay we've done in class and they were fairly structured, so im not 100% sure on how to write a law reform essay etc
thanks
Dom

I doubt there will be a law reform essay. The HSC essays seem pretty general in that they provide a broad quote and ask "Assess the effectiveness of the law in......"

Hmm, okay, for Family-
1. Incorporating the question, put in something like the need for law reform arises due to the requirement to protect family and children. Also define family, and go through your main points.
2. Paragraph on jurisdiction, and how that can hamper law reform, as theres a dual jurisdiction.
3. Go through your main points, explaining how a conflict had risen so that law reform was required. Then make a little statement saying how this law reform was both effective and ineffective in solving the issue. I'd say you'd probably have about 4 of these.
4. Conclusion

Dont forget that law reform is not only statute, but it can be precedents set.
Hope that helps.

Can you explain that dual jurisdiction thing?

Umm, its like, conflicts are solved separately depending on the type of family unit it involves.

Sect 51 of the constitution states that commonwealth is granted jurisdiction of all affairs concerning marriage, divorce and children. All other affairs are state jurisdiction, such as alternative family arrangements such as defacto couples etc.
