hi there

im searching for a book
2, 3 and 4 unit
that has moderately difficult questions with worked solutions.

my teacher doesn't like me and i have no tutor so whenever i come across a hard question in some book, it has the answer and thats it, without telling me how it was actually done.

regards

I doubt you will find just ONE book with the whole syllabus for 2 3 and 4 units.

That said, for 2u you don't really need solutions. Being a 4u student, you should be able to work out how to do the question from the answer.

For 4 unit, Terry Lee's book has worked solutions at the back. However, As Buchanan said, you will learn more from the struggle with harder questions and the inability to do them than from solutions.

Yup, Fitzpatrick sucks. I've finished the complex numbers chapter in it, and it covers the very basics only.

Everyone tells me that the Arnold one is the best, but I dunno. I have the Arnold, the fitzpatrick, patels excel, and a bit of the Coroneos. Whatever you do, don't buy excel and fitzpatrick. For the other books, you'll have to listen to the experts.

No....Fitzpatrick....is quite challenging....better for 3u maths people.....i didnt like the 2u fitzpatric maths - a bit higher than expected level....though 3u Fitzpatrick has good Q's...

Or may be try Cambridge 2/3u books.....it goes from easy to hard level and when a teacher is not accessible...this book is handy as its quite self explanitary!

As Guardian said, T. Lee has full solutions. This book is the best IMO (though i haven't seen coroneus).

umm... "- Gabor Szego"?

His real name is Derek Buchanan, so I think that means the quote is from Gabor (some guy who is famous for something . . . I've never heard of him :p )
hehhe

BTW, i haven't seen Terry Lee, but here is my evaluation of the books: (i've only done complex numbers, so this is evaluation of complex numbers topic)

Cambridge: Good questions, but very short exercises. Supposedly covers EVERY type of question that can be asked, but I don't think so. Questions can be hard, but are usually fairly easy once you actually get the hang of the topic.

Fitzpatrick: Waste. Seriously, I finished off the complex numbers chapter without any difficulty, and I haven't even started it at school. I just learned from the examples they give, and did every single question. VERY easy.

Coroneos:
AWESOME! looks heaps good, has some VERY challenging questions that even some of the top people on these forums have difficulty with. If you don't believe me, ask me for a question :). Goes a bit extra I think, but thats good if you are willing to study.

So imho do cambridge, but if you want to work hard and alot, do coroneos. Ofcourse ND knows much more than me, so if I were you I'd consider getting the Terry Lee book and checking it out. I already have the excel, cambridge, coroneos and fitz so I don't need anymore, all I need to do is work.

Which i'd better go and do now. :)

Here are the ones i remember:

T. Lee "Advanced Mathematics" - Blue cover, paperback, about 3cm thick.

Arnold (can't remember what it's called, it's exactly the same as the cambridge, but has a different cover) - Blue gradient cover, paperback, 1.5-2 cm thick.

Fitzpatrick - Orangy cover, paperback, same size as arnold.

Excel - self explanatory.
