You're going to have to be a bit more specific I'm afraid. You'll need a higher GPA to get into law than food science. At UNSW we use WAM, which is just an average (weighted by credit points) mark.
GPA = Grade point average.
Different places do it differently. In general, allocate a number to each grade.
eg
0 Fail (0-50)
4 Pass (50-65)
5 Credit (65-75)
6 D (75-85)
7 HD (85-100)
(just an example, i'm not sure of the specific numbers)
Now give each course a weighting based on the credit points
A (6/24)
B (4/24)
C (4/24)
D (4/24)
E (3/24)
F (3/24)
And GPA = Σ Weight . Grade#
By my system, wam 74 = wam 65 = gpa 5.
WAM is more accurate.
