Not sure about this

Heard there's a master of commerce program on offer for undergraduate engineering students in their 4th yr or something in UNSW, any explanations would be appreciated

It's a fasttrack program, offered to eligible candidates doing any engineering degree. And yes it happens during 4th-5th year, application in 3rd yr IIRC.

if u maintain a cr (65%) average in ur first 3 yrs of study, in ur fourth yr, u take a few commerce courses. then in ur fifth yr, u can graduate from a MCom. basically, u take 1 yr to do a course which usually takes 1.5-2 yrs. there is a string attached : the courses u do in ur fifth yr cant be defered. its full-fee paying.

that sounds great, but the full-fee is a bit of a put off, any way in terms of the degree MCom u receive after your 5th yr, is it any different to a regular MCom graduate's degree (i.e. u learn less in the graduate program)?

and r there any other graduate programs UNSW offer?

Can u plz giv me a site to refer to?

appreciated

Go to lectures, the engineering buildings (there's about 12 of them), the engineering tour (which they normally do) and the Scientia (to see the first year COM1711 project in action - Thomas the Tank Engine)

I asked a couple of guys about the master of commerce program for engineering, both from the engineering and commerce departments. Most of them didn't have a clue...

Apparently from what I could gather:
The program is covered by HECS
It's being phased out, to be replaced by a BE/BCom combined degree

only the BE part is covered by HECS, the MCom is full-fee paying. so far, only the Software degree is converted to BCom. for the ret of the engg majors, it'll be abt 2-3 yrs till they introduce the BCom.
man, i should be there doing career-s advising :p
