Graduate faster? (1 Viewer)

My course is civil engineering (bachelor, UNSW). Is it possible to graduate at least half a semester faster? Apparently this means that i must take 24 uoc in summer. however, only cven2501 and 2 gen ed (luckily my gen eds are available in summer) can be taken during summer. cven1300 is also a choice, but taking it in summer gives no effect (ive taken it in year 1 semester 2 anyway). another choice will be honour thesis A, but this is uncertain, since it depends on the availability of the choice u want n the supervisor. i heard it's possible for unsw students to take some courses during winter break (yes, winter) in USYD (by asking the school whatsoever with convincing reasons). Anyone knows a way to do this??? THANKS!

Maybe if you overload, summer school and winter school you may be able to get there a bit faster. With the units at other universities I think you'll be asked to present a reason why you want to study that particular subject and that particular university and then they evaluate your request.

It is possible to graduate half a semester earlier, but I only know of the Mech combination to allow that to happen. Without taking any summer courses, you will need to overload each semester from the start of second year, and that way, it will cause Thesis A to be done in the semester before Thesis B. You may be allowed to overload in semester 2 of first year if your WAM is high enough.

If you do take summer courses, it will definitely help but I believe you will have to pay up front, i.e. it won't go on your HECS.

However, overloading isn't easy, especially if you want to do well. Sure graduating faster may get you into the workforce quicker (only slightly), but you do want to graduate with Honours Class 1, I would imagine. Sustaining 75 WAM in your first year might be easy, but as courses get harder, and more work is required of you, it's not as easy as many think (unless you're a genius, but if you are a genius, then you would have figured this out).
