yeah thats the whol rise over run thing but theres something else you gotta do to get it as a ratio like 1:5

say rise = 10
run = 2 that gives me 5 so is the ratio part 1:5 ????

after refering to my skills book. It doesn't mention any ratio but just a fraction.

So if its Rise/Run then it's RISE:RUN

Elevation:Distance.

N/A
if rise = 10 and run = 2
gradient = rise / run = 10 / 2 = 5

the 'ratio of rise to run' (rise:run) is 10:2 which can be simplified to 5:1

I think also when you write the gradient, you have to write it as like '1 in 5' (or whatever ratio u get), for example. Well that's what we were taught anyway.

well i checked my geo book (ie class notes) and that's what it said.
Though i guess it doesn't make a difference how u write it, as long as the ratio thing is correct.
