La Belle Dame Sans Merci presents the encouter between a mortal and a supernatual being and the blighted life that follows.
Keats uses the four lined balled, only shortening the last line to convey the sence of emptiness and spectulation by the audience
The first three stanzas the narrator questions the solitary knight, asking him why he is alone and so pale etc..
The knight explains he met a "Faery's child" (female beuty is often equated with seduction, deception and the ruination of man-something desired, but also feared).
He talks about how she took him to her "elfin grot" where she lulled him to sleep. In that sleep he has terrible dreams, where deathly pale warriors had come to warne him of "La Belle Dane Sans Merci".
When the knight awakes, he is alone on the cold hillside, and wonders just like the warriors in his dreams. He is uanble to leave.
The knight can give no real answers, which leaves alot to the imagination.

Hope this helps
