hey. um for fermentation do we place the limewater and the glucose yeast in CONICAL FLASKS? i know the experiment but i only have "place into flasks"

also for Esterification why do we add "50ml of water shake then drain lower aquoes layer" then "add 15ml of NaHCO3 with 35ml of water. shake and drain lower Aqueous layer"

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the glucose/yeast solution goes into a side-arm flask. The tube coming out of the side goes into any flask you like.. It's only testing for the carbon dioxide coming off the reaction.

As for esterification.. You have to get rid of the water, or else you'd be left with an ester in solution. You only want the ester, not the water (aqueous layer).
The sodium carbonate is added to remove any excess acid from the ester.
Basically, getting rid of the aqueous layer, and adding the NaHCO3 help to make the ester more pure.

Gosh I hope that helped. I'm not too flash at Chemistry myself :)

Best of luck in trials!
