Hey guys,
Has anyone here ever been interested in Aikido or the Martial arts but never took the time to try it out...because you can always come and join our Aikido classes at Mac Uni.
(I've only done it for a few months), but its been incredibly rewarding, fulfilling and overall mind-blowing. (It's helped with my relaxation, study, concentration, and even with my exams last semester).
Anyway this site has some info on what Aikido is just to get yourself a little bit more acquainted:
http://www.kokikaiaustralia.org/?FAQ:What_is_Aikido
Basically, Aikido is a Japanese martial art where the movements are circular and flowing and techniques are applied in self-defence. Compared to many other martial arts, there are no tournaments or competitions. Furthermore, what you might not expect is that Aikido does not solely rely on strength, size, age or gender to perform its techniques.
I know its always odd to try out new things, but I just wanted to share this with you all, since maybe you too could pick up a few good things.
Anyway they've got 3 classes going at the gym:
* Tuesday nights 7:30-9:30pm
* Thursday nights 8:30-10pm
* Sunday 11am-1pm
Training takes place in the Martial Arts Hall in the Gym's newly refurbished Sport and Aquatic Centre (Just 2-3 mins walk from the Mac Library).
As for how much it is, all of the uni's Martial Arts are included in the Gym's Health Club membership (where you can subscribe for either 4, 6 or 12 months with varying prices), that's if you're already a member or plan on using the gym in the future.
But if you just want to try Aikido out for one lesson, then I recommend you pay for casual entry at the Reception, which amounts to $8.50 if you are an MQ student.
Everyone there is incredibly friendly and warm, and very accommodating to newbies. All levels train together so its not a problem at all if this is something you've never done before!
If anyone here is interested to try something new, and especially if you've never used Mac's gym, have never tried Martial Arts or if you need help finding the place or are not sure about how to get started, then drop me any questions at simone.sandoval@gmail.com and I can try to lend some help.
Hope to see you there!
Simone.
