i posted not long ago bout a legal assesment that i have been given.. to make up a question regarding an issue on crime..
ive come up with the question..

"are the sentances handed out to sexual assult offenders effective?"

i plan to look at it fom a couple of angles...

- are the sentances bringing justice to the victims involved..?

-are the sentances handed out to the offender enough to stop them from re- offenfeing?

i need some more angles to look at it from... any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!!! so please feel free!!!

also...im ,looking for some cases to focus on.. any suggestions for this would also be very much appreciated! :):)

thankyou :) :)

you need to take a new angle. sexual offenders get jail time over here, and that means they are around alot of people who are also in jail. people who commit petty crimes might get some jail time and come out sex offenders because they are stuck with the creepy peds in jail. plus, sex offenders usually rape guys in jail and yeah, that creates even more sex offenders (people who are victims of sexual assault- particularly males- are more likely to become offenders themselves. look up some statistic that supports it)
so you can say that sentences aren't effective because although they might stop an offender for 14 years, they create plenty more.

"offenders that have been in jail, for other crimes
{not nessicarily sexual assult}
and have been exposed to sexual assult, are more likley to become sexual offenders?"

any suggestions :) ?

thankyou

firstly it would b a good idea to learn how to spell 'sentences', no offence but ur teacher would go nuts if u handed in an essay with it spelt how u had it (i know mine would)

another good example to throw in would be how society views those who have been convicted of sexual assult, for example, sexual offenders being held in remand almost ALWAYS because the police fear society will take the prosecution into their own hands, showing how society views people committing these crimes...

that could lead onto how the jury in the district or supreme court would interpret these crimes (finding most of the accussed guilty)...

it is the judges (those who decide primarily on the sentence) that prove the legal system to be ineffective in the sentencing of sexual assult cases...

try to find stats on re-offending sex offenders (if that makes sense) to show how the penalties atm are not harsh enough to deter them from re-offending
