ok..i dont want to sound like some computer illeterate, (i took up IT in the HSC you know!) but problems keep coming up to p*ss me off.
when im using the computer (this is usually late at night, doing assignments before the due date) and im happily typing away when i hear this high pitched whistle which seems liek it is coming from the monitor. like a Beeeeeeep which starts fainter than gets higher and higher until its not bearable and i turn off the monitor to shut the sound out.
is there are problem with the monitor? do you think its the refresh rate which affects the thing? ive set my monitor to 1024*798 @85Hz and its only now that it is whistling.

thanks!

Change the refresh rate to like 72 or 60 for a minute, and see what happens.

Then try 800x600 @ 85 (if possible)

It's likely you're on a resolution/refresh rate that the monitor doesn't like

In the short run, thats seems to fix the problem, but i recommend you should take it into an electrition to get a look-at to save it in the long run.

Sounds like one of the capasitors is on its last breath.

Of course, if the monitor is getting old. You many as well keep it as it is and start saving for a new one once the current one does die.

I had a similar problem with our old monitor. It was more blue then normal, so we took it back under warrenty, then the same thing happened again a month or so later. We repeated this cycle once more before we got sick of the hassel and dodgey repair job the manufacturer did.

No idea why they wouldn't just give us a replacement, in the end it got sold on ebay and we opted for an LCD.

Harvey norman would have only shipped your monitor to get fixed by the manufacturer (or another company under 3rd party) for fixing.

Either way, if a product cannot achieve what it is ment to fully, and its under warenty, you should be able to get it fixed. But don't forget, the average life-time of a monitor is about 5 years, so if its over that age, theres little point in worrying too much about it.

I think we managed to pawn ours away for $150 (it was a 21").
