Hi,
lets begin with some information, 5 years ago I got this crazy idea about making a place online where you can get help with your homeworks.
In danish, since I am a dane from Denmark. (Northern Europe)
It worked and have been a success for 5 years, it is free, we have a online chat and a site. (www.lektier.org NB: Danish only)

You are probably thinking now, why is he writing this, I don't care.
Well it is because I have now wanted to start an english branch.
Where people can help eachother with their homeworks.
For free!! This is a must, I have seen that there are tutoring sites in english, but they all cost money.

I am looking for people that are interrested in starting this with me, I am not going to "lead" the english branch, but I am going to supervise and provide it with stuff.
There is no requirements on how good you are at different subjects, only the will to help others, and being polite!

What do you think about the idea, and if you're interrested please post it or send me a mail.
Spread out the word, since I do not know alot of english sites where I can find people that are in school..

That does sound like a alright idea.
But you say that anyone can jump online and help with homework?
Whats to stop people messing with the system and giveing misleading advice and help?

ps. If a mod could move this to a education based forum asap, or its gonna get pwned. If i were a NS mod, it would already be moved ;)

Question to the thread starter: how is your idea different from this site?

Well...

In the danish section we got a live chat, with people from universities helping people from high school.
For free, we do it out of goodwill..

And regarding the thing about people giving bad advice or likewise.

Well with hundreds of users people are quick to say if this are wrong and right.
And we got a staff that knows must stuff and moderates things too.

One of our principiles are that we don't make your homework, we help you.
"Give a man a fish and you have fed him one day, teach him to fish, and you have fed him for the rest of his life."

So if anyone is interrested of helping me opening an english branch. Please give me a pointer.

We don't have a board but a chat and a site with information, since the users prefere using a chat when getting help

Whats the purpose of this?
This service being "Free and goodwill" doesnt pay bills.
Where will the money for hosting and servers and other things come from?
advertising?

Well that is my problem as the owner and founder, nothing the user or my staff needs to think about.
We have our own mail and webserver, we have only paid for our domain.
We borrow a chat space for free.

Believe after 5 years I know what I am doing ;-)

So your covering the cost?
so, would this mean no advertising/spam?

Well look at our website, the only space for a banner is free.

And yes there is no advertising, popups, spam or anything else that would annoy me.

This does not mean we will not accept a sponsor, but we will not have a sponsor that wants pop-up or anything that annoying a banner is the max..

I'm still not completely sure what the core difference is apart from the chatroom vs. forum point.

BoredofStudies is a forum with nearly 100, 000 members from around the state made up of high school students, uni students and teachers. Most of our moderators are university students who are skilled in their focus areas, and we have the forum available for chatting.

If what you are talking about though, is establishing a chatroom linked to this site, then this isn't where you should be asking - you would be better off private messaging one of the administrators or super moderators of this forum.

I hope I haven't given the impression that I am attacking your idea - far from it, I think its a good idea I'm just unsure about the specifics of what you are trying to do.

I am not talking about making a chatroom for BOS, I am talking about making an english branch for a site that does nothing but help with homeworks or school related stuff.
I have 5 years of experience and believe me when I say that with a chat people get faster and better help than with a forum.

And we could if we wanted make a voice chat too, so you would be able to speak with one another, but this option is something we haven't done yet.
Remember we do this for free, no charge, no advertising or spam.

A board as Vbulletin also cost several dollars.
And at the moment we have never had a single user complaining about we don't have a board.
Since they still get their help.

Why was this topic moved?
Bored of Studies > Education > New South Wales (HSC) > General > School > Homework help

It is "hidden" now, way not move it out where most people see it?
I am not just adressing the people from New South Wales.
This is probably the best place for it.

If it had stayed in Non School
  1. It would have been spammed.
  2. It wouldnt have had the possibility for REAL discussion
  3. This forum area is more relevant.
If you want more people to see it, just keep it alive. (it will remain on the top of the "New Posts" list)
