if you want the paper ASAP it gets printed around 11PM and should be delivered by 2AM, by that time the only places that probably will still be open are the 24hour service stations....'learnt that on a wonderful excursion to the newspaper factory! hehehe

Since the introduction of the new HSC the order of merit has been anything but in order, names a listed alphabetically perhaps but u will not know ur rank (unless u placed first) in an individual subject. Your name will be listed, and numbers corresponding to courses u achieved the highest band in will be placed next to your name. Very stupid - a product of this new 'socialist' HSC :p

Sometimes you can approximate your rank using the band percentiles and number of candidates in each course.

They did ask. We had to sign a piece of paper before the area of study exam. Also in the mail a few weeks ago there was a letter of general information which also said that if someone doesn't want their name published they must contact the BoS.

Also, if you check the BoS's version of the allrounder's list, there are a few blank spaces next to school and student number where the student in question had asked that their name not be released - so there was obviously an option somewhere along the way.
