fce don't use gpa for honours

after your 3 years in commerce, depending on your marks, you may or may not be eligible to do an honours year

http://www2.fce.unsw.edu.au/nps/ser...dOutInheritableArea&maxWnd=_Future_UG_Honours

Well after reading this, its so vague, doesn't actually say the "requirements" for honours. Hmm, damn.

I click a few of the different majors you can honour in, seems they all have different entry requirements. So i'd say, just browse that link. Probably aim high, and get 75wam+, and you'd probably qualify. (That's my safe guess)

One thing to note is, assuming you *DO* get into the honours year, all the different majors seem to share this common trait

After completion of all formal requirements(this being the honours year), Honours are awarded at four levels:
Class I – First Class Honours 85% and above
Class II Division 1 – Second Class Upper Division 75% to 84%
Class II Division 2 – Second Class Lower Division 65% to 74%
Class III – Third Class 55% to 64%

Finance Honours @ UNSW

basically good marks needed, i remember doing a search on the forums and finding some people who made honours and posted their wam etc

i posted the fins honours because *apparently* its one of the harder honours programs to get into, because they take a smaller number compared to other majors? which they are planning to increase on that note. but plz do correct me if im wrong there since i am far from a fins whiz.

basically aim for a high overall wam and a very high wam for your major in which you wish to apply for hons.. aww man pollock got another wicket... im off :)

It differs from school to school.
For accounting honours, you need to have done the 3rd year honours component of the cores (ie ACCT3573 and ACCT3593), and have a 75+ average of all ACCT courses (I think)

There are no finance students from UNSW on this forum above third year. I have yet to meet a honours student on this forum.

Sharpshooter is the 85+ requirement for first class honours for finance subs only? or is this an overall wam thing? so confused..[/QUOTE said:
Assuming you get into the honours program, any commerce honours program for that matter;

Your honours year WAM will determine your honours class. Not any other wam beforehand.
>=85 1st Class
75-84 2nd class div 1
65-74 2nd class div 2
50-64 3rd class

For what it's worth, I was accepted into honours last year - I had a PC in a non-finance subject, 80 for FINS3775 and 79 FINS average overall.
beyond that i recall they used to/still do take a small group so its quite competitive. i think usyd takes like 16 students, dont quote me on that number coz its something in my head and i dont quite know why! =P

Anyways, its irrelevant coz i think we all know accounting is where the joy fun and happy days are! :D *waits for flames heading my way*
