Hi everyone,

just wondering what will happen to my atar is i do English Standard? I am doing the following subjects; Physics, biology, Math 2U and 3U and Ancient History. I am not very good at English and am not sure if i can do well. My Atar goal is anything > 80.

you can always try out advanced and if you want to stick with it get a tutor asap thats what i did you can always drop but you cant go back up
I'm pretty sure you need to do the same amount of work like for trials advanced had to do 3 essays and so did standard :)

Advanced isn't that hard. My year 10 teacher was stressing how advanced as demanding but honestly, it was the same workload as year 10. If you put in the effort, get a tutor, ask for help when you need it, it really isn't difficult at all to be at least the top 75% of the cohort.

If you're looking for an >80 ATAR, doing Adv english is only beneficial. I'll admit I'm not that great in english compared to my cohort, but it's aligning is far better than standard. the workload of both is about the same anyway. if you're struggling, get some help like a tutor or resubmit practice essays to your teacher back and forth, and correct them according to their comments. by doing this regularly, while time consuming, you will eventually improve and get the hang of what writing a good essay (along with language) is like. good luck

It's the devil, trust me. The scaling is the same, but the moderation process is where standard kids get destroyed. Look at the raw mark database, to get an 85ish for standard you need to get 80's raw. Compare this to advanced, a 75ish raw will get you a band 6.

Under 0.1% of standard students (about 30-50) each year get a band 6, compared to advanced which is 12-15%?

Even if my figures aren't entirely accurate, it highlights how much more difficult it is to access the higher marks in standard.
