go to "user cp", top right of your screen.

then go to the "edit options" tab

scroll all the way down.

note: the pic should be smaller than 100 x 100 pixels.

clairegirl,

The pictures are called 'avatars'. :)

As Rahul has said,

Go to your User Control Panel - the first bottom from the left, located at the top right hand corner of your screen.

Click on Edit options (third from the left)

Your avatar-options will be at the very bottom, of this page.

i stand corrected. :)

i still think that having a main thread, linking to other threads with such problems will be a good idea, in my opinion anyway [not that it matters]. :)

No, your opinion matters Rahul. (okay, I'm just saying that :p).

I think the whole point of having a FAQ, as you have suggested, is to have a main thread (or index), listing the common types of questions asked -- you could say, 'frequently asked questions' even. ;)

User Maintenance

- Why should I register?
- Does this board use cookies?
- How do I clear my cookies?
- How can I change the information in my profile?
- What is the signature for?
- Help! I lost my password!
- How do I add a custom status to my profile?
- How do I get a picture under my username?
- What are the buddy and ignore lists?

General Board Usage

- Can I search the board?
- Can I send email to other members of this board?
- What is Private Messaging?
- How do I use the Member List?
- How do I use the calendar?
- What are announcements?
- How do I rate a thread?
- What are referrals?

Reading and Posting Messages

- Are there any special codes/tags I can use to format my posts and messages?
- What are smilies?
- Code Buttons and Clickable Smilies
- How do I create and vote in polls?
- What Are Attachments?
- What are message icons?
- Can I edit my own posts?
- What Are Moderators?
- Why have some of the words in my post been blanked-out?
- What is email notification?

:)

if i was a new user, i would probably head straight for "site help" and make a thread, that is what i did do.

i just think it would be more practical, in the sense that, it would be more useful.

my main point is having in 'thread form', as that is what they see/use, rather than a small button. :)

True, but if you were a new user - you wouldn't post in the right forum! :p

If nobody takes notice of the FAQ button, they can always create a thread (anywhere), it'll be moved, and their questions will be answered. It's not a big deal, and doesn't take that much effort. :)

No problem clairegirl, although Rahul did beat me to it. (maybe it's because I was responding to your PM ;)).

I like the hair, it's very funky! :)

i agree, make a standard response, which can be linked for these threads. as winston said once people don't like reading for their answer, i think it's a bit hard to take everything in when you don't know what is going on, and as this person asked - "picture under my name" or something, they would never have known it was an avatar
