How do you test if your English tutor is any good? (1 Viewer)

So I'm about to go to a trial English tutor lesson with some guy I found on tutor finders - he's pretty qualified, but my big brother warned that you can't just look at someone's credentials. He told me to do some mini-tests to see if he's a good English tutor.

Can anyone suggest of ways I can prepare for my trial lesson, and how I could see if he was a good tutor or a bad tutor?

See how well he memorises essays

Nah jokes, honestly I don't think you can test English ability as well as say math, it depends on how well he knows the texts, the modules/electives themselves and how well he writes an essay. To test him that, you yourself have to know them pretty well first. Doubt 1 lesson is going to tell you a lot for English. Personally I don't find English tutor any use, hence I never went any.
