Guys any thoughts. Need to write long response on it. Any help appreciated.

THE DOOR

Go and open the door.
Maybe outside there’s
a tree, or a wood,
a garden,
or a magic city.

Go and open the door.
Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
Maybe you’ll see a face,
or an eye,
or the picture
of a picture.

Go and open the door.
if there’s a fog
it will clear.

Go and open the door.
Even if there’s only
the darkness ticking,
even if there’s only
the hollow wind,
even if nothing is there,
go and open the door.
At least there will be a draught.

I'm not that great with english, but I could give it a go, if you could post up the poem as well?

EDIT: Sorry not a great idea mate,

But how about talking about how Australians are optimistic? They like to think of positive things and always take chances/risks in life?

Sorry, couldn't be much help :(

It's quite hard to really link to Australian identity: have you tried googling him or the poem to get some context to see where he's coming from.

Well the foucs of the poem is what's beind the door. The thing that jumps out to me is that there is something out there that we don't know about or haven't explored.

Dogs are pets, and people have them in their backyard; that's Australian lol

The third stanza reminds of the notion that sitting inside doing nothing all day (fog) is useless; open the door of opprtunity and your boredom will clear.

I get knocked down, I get up again; that kind of idea??

Just bullshit :D

Australian identity: give everything a go, take a challenge, to experience stuff
The poem: about stepping outside and seeing new things. A bit like the Australian identity of taking challenges and seeing new things.

Oh we used this as a related text for Change..

I guess maybe, he's writing about change from his former life? *looks at authors name.. i didn't think "Miroslav Holub" was an aussie name*

But yeah, I think it might be him moving to Australia.

miroslav holub grew up in communist bohemia? so i don't see how its fair to make you link it to australian identity!
