Hi just curious as to how important you guys think prelims are in the scheme of things. I know they don't count towards ATAR or anything, but how many people who do badly in prelims do well in HSC and vice versa?

Not performing well in maths during prelim will reflect in year 12 unless you put in the hardwork and improve it. Otherwise almost everything has new content and some things from prelim will carry over such as some chemistry stuff and maybe a few physics formulas.

Year 12 is all about the effort you put in.

I heard some people who failed year 11 but topped year 12 and some who went the other way.
For Maths, there was a guy who failed prelims but got state ranking for HSC though.

Altogether, HSC is definitely about effort.

For some subjects, prelim is the fundamental knowledge for HSC (such as maths, as mentioned). I think you should try to do well even in prelim, so that in this time you can develop good study habits and find out what type of studying is most effective for you, so that you can do better in HSC.
