Let's say I'm doing a 6pg essay response on Q3 in AOS papers

Teacher 1 said that I need to focus on my prescribed text "The Tempest" where I need to do 3 pages talking about my prescribed text and write 1 pg for my remaining texts including the stimulus text.

Teacher 2 (my tutor) said that I need to set each text equal in my response. Say I do 1 1/2 pgs talking about journeys for each text and not putting major focus on my prescribed text.

Which method is better for me to do in the trials and hsc exams for english?

Well, my teacher gave us an essay scaffold, and told us to focus mainly on our prescribed text, which also happens to be The Tempest. :D

Give about 1/3 to the prescribed text, a bit less than 1/6 on the BOS stimulus booklet, and a little more than 1/6 on each of your additional texts - according to the english faculty at my school.

dont talk about all texts in equal length
basically your set text should be the most e.g. skrzynecki or tempest or watever
then 1 text from the stimulus and equal amount on related text/text(s)

This depends greatly if you want to take the textual or thematic approach. Both tend to work, although the essay should have a 'webbed' structure, hence the thematic approach is more sophisticated and integrated. Hard to say exactly how much to write on each, basically:

Spend least amount of time talking about stimulus

Divide your time equally between prescribed text (2 poems from Coleridge) and related texts (2). The markers are infact most interested in the related material ideas as its something new and refreshing, so they are more easily impressed by original discussion. Monopolise on this.

But most importantly, link the texts. Compare, contrast, draw parallels, whatever, just talk about 2 texts at the same time.

you are wrong joe, the markers want you to talk about each text evenly in aos according to a couple of hsc markers, always do a touch more on the set text like a paragraph and always do it first but still don't do like 1/4 of a page on the other texts.
