chem so fucking boring.

my prelim mark was 70% on an Independent prelim paper, now I hope I scraped a 50 raw in the actual hsc

It's boring cause of garbage hsc resources and garbage teachers. i'm not bothered to google search everything with useless out of syllabus stuff popping up every time i want to learn a new thing. I just gave up as a result.

the textbooks are so trash, verbose and convoluted, yet still lack the depth required to answer the hsc questions somehow.

chemisery would be so much more enjoyable if I didn't need to search on google every minute since the textbook covered it poorly or didn't cover it at all

Yeah that's why a lot of people go to tutoring. Unfortunately i'm too broke to go to tutoring for any subject other than maths at this stage
i think theres more than enough detail on the textbook (maybe a bit convoluted but its not too hard to learn from it) and tutoring isn't necessary to do well
notes are probably best done as you learn the content/do practice questions and its best to have diagrams with your notes (so typing it might not be best) since science has a lot of diagram stuff

ive been using textbooks and notes from this website but is there anything else i can do? also how should i make notes for science/maths cause i wanna start making notes but idk how to
i still swear by khan academy to get you started, even though their syllabus is not in the same order as ours so you might need to do some jumping around

wait is chem part of the syllabus change in 2027? should i not buy textbooks now then and just study off notes
i havent heard of anything about the chem syllabus changing in 2027. if it costs too much money to get textbooks perhaps dont buy them or, even better, get an online pdf. for me personally physical textbooks were always a hassle bc its more inconvenient to make notes online.. but its up to personal preference
also may i ask when you're going to start learning chemistry? i'd say studying a term or break ahead is perfect (and during that time its not necessary to learn more than a whole module)
for me personally, in yr 11 chem, bc i studied way too early most of what i learnt left my brain by the time we started it in class and i basically just wasted a whole lot of time that couldve been spent on roblox :frown2:
i promise you, you can still perform exceptionally well even without studying super early!

i see! well, i think year 11 actually does tie into some year 8/9 stuff (especially module 1 such as bonding and theory about the periodic table)
i think itd be worthwhile looking into whatever overlaps with what you're learning currently or learning next year so in class you can apply whatever you've studied. this way it wont fly out of your brain by the time you revisit it :jump:

hey! I know nothing about if chemistry is part of the syllabus changes in 2027 aside from hearing how they are not teaching the whole module 5 which is year 12 content or smth? (from word of mouth, haven't checked myself) but you should be fine with at least learning the general content for module 1 for year 11 to put you in a good place before next year. The chemistry in focus 11 textbook is great for this however you may find that it goes into way much more detail then you will ever need for learning the content! If you need a pdf copy, i'd be glad to give you one :) but otherwise, i wouldnt say there is much you need to do.

Dont stress too much about already taking notes for the content bc you have so long until y11 starts and if you decide to cram too much ahead of time, you will end up burning yourself out. I honestly made my own slideshow of simple dot point notes for module 1 content off the chem in focus booklet, before y11 started and it did help me reinforce all the concepts once learning them in class came around. Chem is all about understanding tho so esp at the beginning, id suggest you take your time to understand everything you take in and dont rush to learn everything at once.

I hope this helps! :guitar:
