I live in Croydon but rather than purchasing a ticket from Croydon to City, i want to purchase one that goes from Burwood to City since i sometimes go to Burwood.
Do i have to keep buying another ticket from Croydon to Burwood to go backwards or is it possible to purchase the latter ticket?

Yeah, they can do that at the counter. Just say you want a ticket from Burwood to the city.
