Now John Howard wants to change part of the welfare system, affecting the disabled and single parents.

I see this a something of a positive step as the welfare system needs an overhaul, as it seems too many are dependent on it, at a time when the workforce is shrinking because of an ageing population, and Howard said that these reforms will leave more money left for the aged pensions. But of course, there are those who oppose it

But while these reforms are good, as getting single parents back into work once kids go to school, there is the issue of childcare places and working environments as laid out. While these reforms are needed, they also need to work on creating more childcare places, as this will further entice those off welfare. And i agree with the disability, as if you can work 15 hours a week, then you aren't that disabled to work.

But i want the changes to the disability pension to go further. Did you know that some people are on disability pensions because the are illiterate, can't speak english, or drug users, and as such, these 'disabilities' make them unemployable. I see this as the biggest rort. I come from the western suburbs of sydney, and i see that drug users and illiterate people are usually the same, they have both 'disabilities', but they can be fixed. Until they realise that the government isn't going to support them until at least they become employable, they are going to stay this way forever, living off my tax dollars. And as for those who can't speak english, many of these are those who have been here for years, but probably because they are unwilling, or just become too dependent on the government, they also feed of my hard earned money. I don't mind my money going to the seriously disabled, or aged people, as they both require our support but these other people are a drain on our society who aren't of much worth.
