i am having a nervous breakdown. at the start of the year i was going exellent in all my subjects. in chem we were given a research assignment worth 20% and i spent over 15hrs doing it. it ended up being 22 pgs long so i got my tutor to look over it and she said it was exellent (she had the same assignment back when she was in yr 12). i got the assignment back and i got 50% coz "it was too in depth" load of shit.

for the trials i studied my ass off, at least 8 hrs each subject and my marks were, eng- 67%, food tech-76 1/4%, chem 33% (fucking hell!!!!), pdhpe- 59%, maths 54%. n the 1/2 yearlys i flogged these marks without picking up a single book 4 study WTF!?!?!?! so im really fucked...]

then from then my confidence fell. chem is killing me. i now have an ave of 56% for the assesment mark. in my other subjects, adv eng-78%, food tech-95%, gen maths-57%, pdhpe-72%.

i entered these marks into the sam modeller thing and i got estimated uai of 66, where i need 75 or higher. my boyfriend told me not to worry coz if i do bad i can do that stat test thing, but im really worried. i dont wanna be a waitress 4 the rest of my life lol.

so some feed back would be good plz, ease my pain, lol

Well SAM uses ALIGNED Marks. I assume you are entering the raw marks. So depending on how the raw marks are moderated you may find you do actually get 75+

And only 8hours each subject? Hmmm i dont know, that just dosent seem like alot. Try a bit more for the final HSC exams...

omg lol im the same as you, with trial marks, all completely downhill, so far, they fell in a ditch. haha i do chem... its torture. But i was told over and over by all my teachers that i *will* hate my trial results, nearly everyone does worse than they thought in them.

i got bio back today and it was 60/107. HAHAHAHAHAH but im not having a nervous breakdown, such is life, i know that this day jail they call 'school' is most certainly not the end of my life. :D:D:D:D

yeah, and remember in most cases trials will be harder than the final exams, and teachers will mark harder to disturb students into studying!

Use your syllabus, especially for chemistry. Practise on past papers.

this reminds me of some chic in my class when we got our English marks back she got like 4/15 and full starts screaming and shit and crying .... come on ....its not the end of the world why do people get so worked up over "results"......I will get a uai of like 60 and my sister got 97.9 how do you think this makes me feel? but do i stress over it?...come on just do the best that you can do and don’t worry if you don’t get high marks.....it will pay off in the hsc if you work to the best of your ability...may be even tell the teacher you got the assignment looked out side school by another teacher and they said it was like worth 17/20 why didn’t I go this well? then go what were my bad points....then go I think its worth a few more marks or something....you may be lucky....It usually doesn’t work with me because when I try and scab marks I get all angry at the teachers....good luck any way....not to sound like a dickhead aswell but if you want real good marks you will need to study more the 8 hours per sub, maby just do a bit more study and your results should reflect your work...

Well, I can tell you it certainly is frustrating having people who do less work than you beat you... but thats life, some people are able to do well like that. Others, like me, have to work considerably harder to get those marks, but I suppose thats what you've gotta do if you aren't that 'naturally talented' because practice and rote learning becomes your only option. Just do your best and be happy with what you get, that's how I like to think of it all.

There are still the HSC exams. If you go well in those, your UAI should be fine. :)

Even if you don't get the UAI you need, it doesn't mean you'll be a waitress for the rest of your lfe. My cousin got around 50 for his UAI- he didn't get into uni with his UAI, but payed instead. He topped his classes, and is currently doing his pHD.

My friend got 64 for is UAI last year. He got into B Science at UWS and last semester he got all distinctions and high distinctions.

There are many options out there- the STAT test, like your boyfirend mentioned.

don't worry too much my school didn't exactly report our marks all too acurrately i have a feeling that most skools r like that too.

in reply too all those ppl who r tellin u off for not studyin enough, it is better than not studyin at all. don't let them get to u.

you just need to get round this corner and then u'll be flyin home. i was in a very similar situation this time last year. i'm now at USYD.

dont rely purely on mature student entry, they dont accept all mature students
